Skoda’s new Yeti soft-roader offers rugged SUV-style looks, and comes in both 4x4 and wallet-friendly two-wheel-drive versions.

The entry-level 1.2-litre petrol car costs just £13,750, while the expected big-selling diesels will cost around £17,000-£18,000.


Infiniti G37 Saloon, Coupe, and Convertible (September 2009)

Infiniti is the luxury arm of Japanese firm Nissan, and makes its arrival on UK shores with the upper-medium sized G37 in Saloon, Coupe and Convertible forms.

The G offers just the one engine – a 316bhp 3.7-litre V6, with the choice of a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

The FR will sit just below the Cupra in the Seat Ibiza hot-hatch stakes, but still sprints to 62mph in 7.6seconds.

The 1.4 TSI engine offers both a supercharger and a turbocharger, and offers 148bhp.

In its fifteenth year, the latest model of Toyota’s Rav 4 now offers a new automatic diesel version.

Toyota has also said it is responding to demand by reintroducing a two wheel drive version of the little SUV, which will sit at the entry point of the range.

BMW is upping the power available to its flagship model, the 7-series, in both petrol and diesel versions.

The brand is now offering a 301bhp 740d, and a range topping six-litre twin turbo V12 760Li, which comes in long-wheelbase format.

The FX will play the role of standard bearer for Infiniti’s new range in the UK.

It comes with a choice of two engines, the 316bhp V6 that also appears in the G and the EX, and a 385bhp 5.0-litre V8.

The EX is Infiniti’s small luxury SUV, one that will look to challenge the likes of BMW’s X3 and the Audi Q5.

It costs from £35,200, comes in two trim levels and only offers the one engine – Infiniti’s 316bhp 3.7-litre V6.

Porsche’s road-going racer has been given a more powerful engine, having been upgraded to a 3.8-litre six cylinder unit from the old 3.6-litre version.

Its newest trick is to be able to raise or lower its ride height to get up and down steep inclines should it need to.

Mazda is adding a new top and bottom to its lower medium 3’s petrol range in terms of fuel consumption.

The Mazda 3 i-stop aims to boost efficiency, with the stop start technology improving fuel economy by 16%.

The 3 MPS sets its sights more on performance, carrying a 2.3-litre turbocharged engine.

The latest incarnation of Ford’s rugged off-roading truck comes in three body styles – regular cab, super cab and double cab, meaning it can carry up to five people.

It also offers the choice between two- and four-wheel drive, and the option of 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre diesel engines.

Despite being capable of 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and having a top speed of 204mph, Bentley says the new Continental Supersports has a green side to it.

It is the first Bentley that is capable of running on biofuel as well as normal petrol.

Given it’ll do around 17.3mpg and will cost £163,000, it’s unlikely any buyer will be too bothered about its eco credentials.

The estate version of the fastest Vauxhall Insignia is slightly slower than its saloon equivalent, but it still makes it to 60mph in just 6.0 seconds.

Like the hot saloon version of the upper medium Vauxhall, the Insignia Sports Tourer is lower than the standard car, and uses a modified version of its top of the range 2.8-litre V6 engine.

The new Range Rover Sport will be available with a 500bhp supercharged engine.

Borrowed from the Jaguar XFR super-saloon, this 5-litre V8 engine should give the new Range Rover Sport a 0-62mph time just south of 6 seconds.

Land Rover claims the supercharged Range Rover Sport will return an average fuel consumption of 18.9mpg – a 1.1mpg increase over the current 385bhp supercharged model.

 

 






Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion (September)

The new Golf BlueMotion, the most efficient and technologically advanced iteration of the model yet produced, is capable of achieving 68.9 mpg on the combined cycle which equates to a theoretical range of over 800 miles, while emitting just 107 g/km of CO2.

A stop-start system is also fitted to the new Golf BlueMotion to improve efficiency further.  The system allows the engine to shut down completely when at a standstill before automatically restarting as soon as the driver is ready to move off.
